"Under God" is considered a religious statement and as the Constitution states we have the freedom of religion, so even if you don't have a religion that is deemed acceptable. Having this statement restricts those people because if they do not believe in that specific religion, then they feel attacked into having to say "Under God" because it is in their pledge. Not saying "Under God" is not telling the country that they hate pledging to their country it is saying they do not believe in that certain religion. They believe in their country; they just do not believe necessarily in God.

What's wrong with tradition? God means many things to many different people, so the tradition of saying under God is stronger than the just christianity.

Side: Yes.

The words "Under God" should not be in the pledge because the pledge is stating that our country is a free county, which gives us the ability to have the freedom of religion. We have the ability and right to believe in one god, many gods, or no god at all. It gives us the ability and right to stand up for whatever we believe in. People who are not standing up and saying the pledge are not doing it to disrespect our country, but are standing up for they're constitutional right to believe in any religion they feel fit for them, or no religion at all. By having the words "Under God" in the pledge, it is not pledging the very first constitutional right of this country.

People have the right to say what they want. They don't have to say "under God". Just because we have turned into a sensitive country where people don't want to hear what they don't like, it doesn't mean that we have to change everything. What happens when people don't like the word America in the pledge, should we take that out too?

Side: Yes.
